Some of the
Equipment We Use
The below equipment is just a sample of what we bring
with us when we conduct a tscm inspection
Spectrum Analyzer OSCOR 5000, Ver 5.0+
The OSCOR 5000 is a spectrum analyzer that can search the RF Spectrum
from 10Khz to 3Ghz for any transmitting devices. The picture to the top
right is the screen display on the OSCOR. The bump in the lower middle
of the screen was caused by a 2.4Ghz color video camera hidden inside of
a radio. The OSCOR can also detect infra-red and carrier current bugging
devices.

Portable X-Ray Imaging System

At left is our portable X-Ray system that is set up to
image a telephone instrument to determine if there are any eavesdropping
devices installed inside of the phone instrument.
Our System is also capable of storing images on cd so
we can compare X-rays on future inspections to determine if there has
been any additions to the electronics in the phone since our last
inspection.
We are able to X-ray a variety of items including
walls, clocks, phone instruments, telephone blocks, and other objects
that eavesdropping devices are commonly hidden in.

Here is a clock radio before an X-Ray is taken.

Here is the image from our x-ray imager
Thermal Infrared Camera

The thermal infrared camera operates at a
wavelength which allows the camera to "see" changes in temperature.
This allows the operator to detect eavesdropping devices by detecting
the heat created by a hidden camera or transmitter. The camera is so
sensitive, it can detect devices that are operating behind walls or
above ceiling tiles.

The picture on the left shows the view
with the human eye.

This is an image captured from the thermal imager.
You can see a white hot spot that was created from a video camera
imbedded in the wall.
Non Linear Junction Detector (NLJD)

The ORION Non Linear Junction Detector is manufactured
by Research Electronics.
The NLJD is capable of detecting the electronics that are inside of
bugging devices whether the bugging device is currently operating or
not. This piece of equipment is extremely important due to the fact
that some transmitters may be on a timing device or remote control
during the sweep and will not be active during the sweep thus being
invisible to a spectrum analyzer. To Read more about the Orion follow
this

Time Domain Reflectometer

A time domain reflectometer (TDR) is used to analyze
phone and cable lines. This unit will send a pulse of energy down a
line and display any change in impedance. Changes in impedance may
indicate an eavesdropping device on the line. The range of the TDR we
use is up to 80miles. The picture above right shows two horizontal
lines in the middle of the screen, these are two phone lines being
tested by our TDR. An eavesdropping device is on the lower line where
the second bump is on the line. The bump at the beginning on both of
the lines is from the connection of the TDR to the phone lines. The TDR
will also give an accurate reading of the distance to where the
impedance change is taking
place.
After we test a line with the TDR, we are able to
print out the display of the line for comparisons on future sweeps.
Digital Phone Analyzer

The TALAN incorporates several types of telephone line tests including
common tests such as voltage, current, resistance, and capacitance
tests, as well as NEW technology such as line NLJD, FDR Frequency Domain
Reflectometry, and Digital Demodulation into a single piece of
equipment. Additionally, the TALAN utilizes an automatic internal pair
switching matrix to automatically perform tests on all pair
combinations. The ability to perform several different tests allows the
user to compare the results of multiple tests on multiple phone lines,
quickly identifying any potentially threatening anomalies.
- Combines multiple testing capabilities into a
single piece of equipment
- Automatic internal pair switching matrix performs
tests on all pair combinations
- Quickly performs common test functions including:
- Multimeter tests (voltage, current, resistance,
capacitance)
- RF Broadband Detector (up to 8GHz)
- Spectrum Analyzer (up to 85MHz)
- High Gain Audio Amplifier
- Bias Generator +-80 VDC
- Audio Oscilloscope with active input (20Hz to
20KHz)
Countersurveillance Probe/Monitor

The broadband receiver designed to detect and locate all major types of
electronic surveillance devices including room, phone, body bugs, video
transmitters, and tape recorders.
